Abstract

Women-owned micro and small enterprises are central to keeping traditional creative industries competitive, yet their capacity to endure over the long run is being tested by fast-moving digital change. Although digital technology and entrepreneurial capability have attracted considerable scholarly interest, few studies have explored whether entrepreneurial competency, AI capability, and learning agility relate to business sustainability through knowledge sharing. Building on the Knowledge-Based View (KBV), this study models the links among these five constructs in the setting of women batik entrepreneurs, with particular attention to knowledge sharing as a channel connecting the three capabilities to sustainability. Survey data were gathered from women who run batik businesses in the main production clusters of Cirebon Regency, Indonesia, yielding 245 usable questionnaires, which were analysed with PLS-SEM in SmartPLS 4. Entrepreneurial competency, AI capability, and learning agility each displayed a positive link with knowledge sharing. AI capability and learning agility were also directly and positively linked to business sustainability, while the direct path from entrepreneurial competency was non-significant. All three capabilities had significant indirect links to sustainability via knowledge sharing. In line with KBV, the results point to knowledge sharing as a route by which capabilities held by the owner translate into a more durable business. The evidence, drawn from women-led batik firms, carries implications for agencies that support entrepreneurs and wish to foster knowledge exchange, technological skills, and a learning orientation within traditional creative sectors.
